Mahabodhi Temple Image used for Dalai Lama's Kalachakra 2012 Speeches DVD-Set CoverI am very pleased that the Namgyal Audio Visual Archive is using one of my photographs on the cover of their latest DVD set of the Dalai Lama's Kalachakra 2012 teachings. The Kalachakra is an ancient ritual that involves a series of prayers, meditations, dances, chants, vows and a construction of a large sand mandala - all with the aim to bring world peace. It took place in Bodh Gaya , in the state of Bihar, India in January 2012. Bodh Gaya is a Buddhist religious site associated with the Mahabodhi Temple , which is famous for being the place where Gautama Buddha is said to have obtained Enlightenment. As well as being an important place of pilgrimage for millions, is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The photograph shows the large light-colored brick central tower at night, lit up by floodlights from surrounding buildings. In the foreground is a small votive stupa surrounded by ceramic plaques with sacred text. Trees reflect the garden-nature of the site - a place of peace and continuous meditation. The image of His Holiness the Dalai Lama was added later to the photo, by the Namgyal Audio Visual Archive team. The Namgyal Monastery is the personal monastery of His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama , and is located at his base of Dharamshala, in the state of Himachal Pradesh in northern India.
