Taprobane Seafoods Factory Garden - 01

One of the first things that any visitor to the seafood factory of Taprobane Seafoods (Pvt) Ltd. does is to comment on how beautiful its garden setting is. Located at Dankotuwa near Negombo, about 30km north of the Sri Lankan capital city of Colombo in a most pleasant rural area, it is indeed a wonderful spot to work in.

I was contacted by the M.D. of Taprobane Seafoods to take a range of photographs for an upcoming brochure. Additional shots were also required for tradeshow publicity materials, so I was very pleased to be selected as photographer for this important job.

Whilst much of the photographic work took place inside the factory, shooting the different aspects of seafood preparation and processing, I was also able to experience the exterior of the factory and its grounds, and some of those shots can be seen on this page.

Western Sri Lanka is famous for its coconut trees. They are grown on all available patches of land, and produce coconut oil from the flesh (copra) of the ripe coconut, and coconut fibre (coir) from the thick mat that surrounds and protects the hard brittle shell of the actual nut within.

Taprobane Seafoods Factory Garden - 05

The Taprobane Seafoods factory is surrounded by many acres of coconut trees. They provide welcome shade for the workers in the hot weather season, as well as being an additional source of revenue to the company when the coconuts are harvested and sold for processing.

Coconut is an important ingredient in much of Sri Lankan cookery, and so it is no surprise that fresh coconut finds its way into many of the tasty dishes cooked in the company canteen, and enjoyed by management and workers alike. During my visit to the factory, I was able to try many of the dishes made in the canteen, and enjoyed each and every one. The cooks work to a high standard, and are an important part of the Taprobane Seafood team.
