Photographer's World Database of Countries, States, and Cities: Using CSVed

The Photographer's World Database of Countries, States, and Cities is primarily designed to be uploaded to a server on the web and used to run a sophisticated database-based website. But maybe you are a photographer who needs a comprehensive list of world countries, states and cities to use when sorting or key-wording your photographs. You don't want to use the data in a database - you just want to look at the data, and then copy and paste it into Adobe PhotoShop, LightRoom, Bridge, or other image keywording programs. No problem - nothing could be easier. The data tables are provided in a set of CSV files, and you can look at them in any program that can display this format. At the simplest, you could use any Text Viewer program, such as NotePad, but I would recommend a dedicated CSV viewer, such as CSVedExternal link opens a new Browser window. Its very versatile, and its free. To use it, just follow the notes below...

Once you have installed the CSVed program, start it running, and click 'File > Open' then browse to the .csv file you wish to view.

When the file opens, the screen may show something similar to the image on the right (click to see it enlarged). Don't panic!

You can now scroll up and down or side to side through the entire table, and inspect any value that you choose.

To make it easier to Copy and Paste values from the table to a different program, click on any of the data lines in the main window. The Edit Form window will open - it can be re-sized if necessary by dragging one of the corners.

Double-Click on any of the form values to select them, then right-click > Copy to copy to the Clipboard. You can also use the standard Windows shortcut: Control-C.
