Two Girl Hikers rest at Thistle Cove

Two Girl Hikers rest at Thistle Cove

Year: 2012, Month: November

Australia > Western Australia > Esperance

The Le Grand Coastal Trail extends through the Cape Le Grand National Park from Le Grand Beach to Rossiter Bay via Hellfire Bay, Thistle Cove and Lucky Bay. For the experienced walker it provides a one day hike over 15 kms of alternating rocky headlands, coastal heath and sandy beaches. The national park is maintained by the Department of Conservation and Land Management, and the path is well marked throughout by rock cairns, wooden pegs and pruned vegetation.

Captain Matthew Flinders named Thistle Cove in 1802 after the ship's master John Thistle. Exploring the southern coast in HMS Investigator Flinders was pleased when Thistle discovered fresh water here.

This area is noted for its exceptionally white sandy beaches, caused by unusually high levels of silica in the sand. When you walk on the sand, the sound produced is similar to crunching over snow. If you slide your shoes over the sand, it will produce a squeaking sound, similar to that made by gym shoes on a basketball court.

This is a classic travel photograph, with all the indivudual items that any visitor might expect to see: blue skies, an azure sea, white sandy beaches, and a clean sweep from distance to foreground that leads the eye to two very pretty girls. There is a clearly defined foreground, middle ground, and distance. The colors are bold, the focus is sharp, and as already mentioned, the girls are beautiful. What more could any stock travel imagery want ?!
