African Overland Journey 2010/11The above map shows my travels through Africa in 2010 and 2011. Starting in November 2010, I travelled by road from Gibraltar to Amman, visiting Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroun, Gabon, Congo, D.R. Congo, Angola, Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, Egypt, and Jordan. I had originally intended to finish in Istanbul, but the terrible political conditions in Syria make this impossible, so I ended the journey in Jordan. The map shows three separate journeys: a 23 week trip from London to Cape Town with Oasis, a 17 week trip from Cape Town to Cairo also with Oasis, and then a 3 week trip from Cairo to Amman with Kumuka. There was a 2 month break in Cape Town, which I spent at the friendly Zebra Crossing hostel, and a 2 week break in Cairo, which I spent at the Pension Roma on Mohammed Farid street in Downtown Cairo. I also spent a couple of weeks in Amman after the Kumuka trip, staying at the excellent Abbasi Palace Hotel on Quraish Street. There are already some photos from that trip on this website: check out the Angola, Congo, DR Congo, Gabon, and Namibia gallerys. The bulk of the photos are still to be processed, however, so you can expect to see them on this site sometime next year. |
